I'm sorry, question was wrong - there is everything OK about ImageMagick and thumbs of image files (JPGS, PNGs etc), what is missing are Ghostscript and ffmpeg so RS can make thumbs and previews of PDF-s and video files...
Trying to use apt-get install ffmpeg (as instructed here) but it does not work... So shoud make RS image with ghostscript and ffmpeg preinstalled, because without them you get just the basic RS features... Even more, you should include texttopdf and OpenOffice deamon (see here) because that will add even more of advanced features
I did not check some other server apps you have (Liferay for example), but I am sure there is more of them which will have better demo if ffmpeg, ghostscript, texttopdf, open office and that kind of tools are included...
