How to solve the "No supported authentication methods available (server sent: publickey)" error?

I just signed up for LAPPStack powered by BitNami via the Amazon AWS marketplace and am stuck on an error when attempting to ssh into the machine. Here is the FileZilla log.

Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Connecting to ....amazonaws.com...
Response: fzSftp started
Command: keyfile "...ss.ppk"
Command: open "bitnami@...amazonaws.com" 22
Error: Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available (server sent: publickey)
Error: Could not connect to server

I've tried putty, putty with pageant and filezilla. I've gone through this tutorial and a putty tutorial. They all give the same error. I'm trying to connect from a Windows 7 box to an instance of LAPPStack powered by BitNami-5.3.14-0 on Ubuntu 12.04 through Amazon AWS. I read about an authorized_keys file. Does that need to be in place? If so how can I do that?

Addition: I've tried connected from a linux box and get "Permission denied (publickey)". What does this mean?

Thanks, Adam
