OpenERP appliance missing Thunderbird plugin and xml-rpc

I try to use the OpenERP-Thunderbird plugin to connect my mailer to OpenERP. There is the downloadlink in OpenERP pointing me to a location on the appliance. Obviously the plugin is missing. The I downloaded it from the Internet but I discovered there is no xml-rpc configured in the appliance. Is it a big problem to make this work?
