Setting up private git repository with existing user on Ubuntu 12.04

Hello!

I have Ubuntu 12.04 server and I'd like to set up private git repository in some specific directory with my default bitnami user. However, I have almost none experience with VCS as such, and therefore I'm pretty much confused about all this. Is something like this possible and how?
